The New Zealand School of Dance is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading dance training institutions, preparing students for professional careers in classical ballet and contemporary dance. We are seeking a Student Support Manager for our student body, which currently comprises 7 international students and 70 domestic students. This is a permanent, part-time position (30hours per week) based in Wellington.
Summary of the Role
The Student Support Manager will share in creating a purposeful, caring, learning environment for our domestic and international students by applying professional standards of pastoral care and support for their emotional and behavioural needs. This role is responsible for providing student support services to all students to ensure that the School complies with the Codes of Practice for the Pastoral Care of Domestic and International Learners [Education (Pastoral care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021].
Essential Skills and Experience
Our ideal candidate is an organised and energetic person with great communication and interpersonal skills. You will have an ability to empathise with and relate to young people, and to inspire their trust and confidence, while maintaining a professional distance appropriate to the role. Ideally you would have relevant work experience in an educational institution and knowledge of the Pastoral Care Code of Practice. A counselling qualification would be an advantage, coupled with a keen interest in dance or the performing arts.
We expect that you will be able to work with minimal supervision, and to manage a workload that may include several tasks of varying priorities. A good grasp of computer skills and a driver’s licence are essential.
On rare occasions you may be requested to assist in events which require weekend work.
