OPEN Classes

The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) offers ballet and contemporary dance classes in Wellington. These are intended for students not currently studying full-time at the School.

Open adult ballet classes are also run at intermediate and senior levels.

Open Contemporary Dance classes

10.45am - 12.15pm Saturdays

New Zealand School of Dance open contemporary classes are for senior students (age 15 and over) to learn from leading New Zealand dance artists and the NZSD's Head of Contemporary Dance Paula Steeds-Huston.

These classes give students considering full time study an opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for the New Zealand School of Dance audition, experience the studios and meet some of the tutors.

Dance teachers are welcome to observe, but must reserve a seat in advance.

RAD Advanced 2 Syllabus Classes

New Zealand School of Dance classical ballet classes are for female senior students learning the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. The weekly classes cover RAD Advanced 2.

These classes give students considering full time study an opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for the New Zealand School of Dance audition, experience the studios and meet some of the tutors.

Adult Open Ballet Classes

Senior Open: 6.00pm - 7.30pm Wednesdays

Intermediate Open: 7.30pm - 9.00pm Wednesdays

Adult ballet students now have the opportunity to take classes in the state of the art New Zealand School of Dance studios.

Taught by Kathiy Watson, these popular ballet classes have been running in Wellington for many years. Each class includes a stretching session and ballet technique.

Intermediate Open classes are for dancers at the level of single pirouettes and short combinations. Senior Open classes are for advanced dancers, they include batterie, legs at 90°+ and multiple turns for pirouettes.

Tailored to the needs of those attending, classes focus on extending both knowledge and technique. Kathiy has experience teaching adult dancers and is happy to answer questions. New and visiting dancers are always welcome.

The New Zealand School of Dance also offers masterclasses in Christchurch and Auckland in conjunction with auditions for the Junior Associate Programme

Students from Year 11 upwards are invited to attend masterclasses with New Zealand School of Dance tutors, Christine Gunn and Paula Steeds-Huston. The classes are a contemporary technique class and an open classical class.
